"Do what you love, and love what you do"
A Family Affair...
Our family stumbled into the business of golf when Jack and Rita Donaldson retired to a little house on Shelter Valley Creek in Grafton on June 5th 1984, coming from Port Credit.
Being hardworking and active and with approx. 26 acres to play with, they set about building one golf hole for family to enjoy.
Over the years one hole became 9, they were both passionate about the game of golf...but neither had the experience for such an undertaking. Over the next several years, they planned and carved out of that little wilderness to create 7 par 3 holes and 2 par 4s.
It soon became a family affair, with the help of their four children, James, Paul, Anne and Kathy, as well as their spouses.
Their first grandchild, Jeff, lived with them at times and so was a big part of the initial phase. One of their other grandchildren, Chris, spent several years helping with the course's completion and opening. In no time at all, their 18 grandchildren were taking part and helping the family's dream come to life.
We all reminisce fondly of the time spent with Jack and Rita (Grammy).
To this day the course is owned, operated, and lovingly maintained by the family. Jack's respect and appreciation of nature and its marvels are always kept in mind.
With Nature In Mind...
Jack and Rita both loved the property's natural beauty, and Jack was especially mindful that no animals, large or small, were harmed or displaced while building the golf course. He protected them all and welcomed their presence, always marvelling at the wonders of nature.
In honouring the work done by Jack and Rita we use all environmentally friendly products including fertilizers. There are some flower gardens, but more than anything, it is a lovely walk in a park-like setting. You'll still see turtles, frogs, birds and others enjoying the greens and surrounding area as their home.
It has truly been a labour of love for the entire family.
